We were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Joseph Reich, a co-founder of R&T Deposit Solutions, on September 29, 2024.
Joseph was a pioneer in the financial industry, founding Reich & Tang in 1970 with Oscar Tang, and navigating its early years through one of the most challenging bear markets. He championed opportunities for women in the workplace and played a key role in the firm’s success, including its 1987 listing as the first publicly traded partnership on the NYSE. His ability to secure a strategic investor helped stabilize the firm during its early years, setting the stage for growth in equity asset management and money market funds. Reich & Tang’s success and lasting client relationships were a testament to his leadership and vision.
Beyond his professional legacy, Joseph was deeply committed to philanthropy, particularly in education. Together with his late wife, Carol, he founded the Beginning with Children Foundation, which transformed educational opportunities for underserved communities. His influence extended to the charter school movement and beyond, leaving a lasting impact on many.
